Avril Lavigne

Now married, fashion conscious, and back in the studio, Avril penned this inspirational track that is to be theme song for the movie Eragon. She said on TRL that her new single will be out late January and we should expect her third studio album in April; Get ready for an album completely ridden of the i-hate-you-i-hate-life songs and a bunch of i-love-you-you're-my-world kinds. My favorite kinds.

The Submarines

This is how the creation of LA based The Submarines album Declare A New State! come about:
boy meets girl.
boy and girl play their own music.
boy and girl fall in love and decide to make music together.
boy and girl break up.
boy and girl make same album separately, spilling every feeling and emotion about each other.
boy and girl read each others music and realize they're still in love.
boy and girl get back together, become The Submarines,
and Declare A New State! is the record they wrote for each other.

So, just fall in love with this song:

Basement Jaxx

Although it took me longer than usual to appreciate Basement Jaxx newest release
Crazy Itch Radio, this B-side side off their second single Take Me Back To Your House is all kinds of amazing. It could almost be a Missy Elliot track. So many handclaps you will die, old school rhythms, it's just an insane mix of genres i don't even know where to begin. Hear it for yourself.

Kid Sister

Kid Sister's rhymes are savvy and quick. With a DJ for a brother (Flosstradamus), this girl has all the best connections.

Case & point:
TTC lent a sick ass beat that makes the booty wanna go boom.

Lady Sovereign Ft. Missy Elliot

Remixes can be very very tricky; you either love them or hate them. So, it was to my great pleasure to hear this remixed (more like 'redone') version of Lady Sov's already flawless track. This time Missy gets her little cameo and puts in her two cents while Sovereign's verse is a bit tweaked and re-rapped. All of this makes it bigger and better (Now if only she would go back and re-do the stupid music video). Love it or hate it, it's still an obsession. Word, Sovvy. Word.

Cobra Starship

Earlier on I posted the song by Cobra Starship that was the title theme to Snakes On A Plane. Now, with Cobra Starship releasing the debut album While The City Sleeps, We Rule The Streets, I felt it appropriate to share one of my favorite tracks. Being one of the less loud & out there songs, The Kids Are All Fucked Up is synth driven with a catchy melody (catchy melodies are my thing so I'm loving it). And despite the vulgar title you'll find the song is actually kind of sweet. kind of, I said.
is now available. Buy it!

M.I.A.

After a very unnecessary lack of posts, I'm back back back. And with a good post too! Thanks to the lovely ways of the Internets, M.I.A.'s new track has leaked! It's a different side of her that I'm excited to hear more of. Her voice sounding a little sexy/raspy and whaT!? she's not rapping about politics or guerrillas!? She's turned her obligatory horn into a synthesized hybrid and it's sounding better than ever. Diplo sampled some of her new stuff (including this track) during a DJ set he did a couple weeks ago but the samples were cut out of the downloadable version, so this is a real treat. Love's Maya.

Nelly Furtado

Being my favorite song on her new album, I never would have thought that i would've liked Nelly Furtado's Say It Right done any other way. That's when i heard her perform on an iTunes Session. This live version is raw and spectacular. With a more guitar and real drum driven sound, Nelly pretty much left behind Timbaland's trusty programming and drumkit beats. Vocally, still as amazing and haunting as the original track and musically, a completely refreshing new sound.

Shystie

I love me a black girl who raps a mile a minute and carries a british accent. Therefore, i love Shystie. Often compared to MC cohort Lady Sovereign, Shystie delivers a similar crazy-ass-fast triple-rhyme rap and slick hip hop beats. Although in my opinion, this girl's got a quicker tongue that Sovvy's and her voice a bit easier on the ears. Touring with the likes of Basement Jaxx and being signed to major label Universal, Polydor records, Shystie is on her way to making a name for her self. Bitch is crazy.

Le Sport

Mixing equal parts Pet Shop Boys, Erasure, New Order, some other bands I can't recall at the moment and inspired by the likes of ABBA and Kraftwerk, Swedish eurodance twosome Le Sport are bringing sexy dance rock back. Not that it ever left, of course. Right from it's sharp synth opening I just want to put on a pair of tiny track shorts and dance around. Nice basslines, slick dance beat, this is a keeper. Loves the talking verses throughout the song. This is what great 80's inspired dance pop sounds like. And the rest of the album is equally homo, you love it. Yay Le Sport!

The Killers

After hearing and watching the video to their new single 'When You Were Young', i was like blah, nothing special. Brandon Flowers' voice just sounds a bit too constrained in the song. BUT! (yes, buts are nice), if you just add a little gay it makes the song so much better. The Thin White Duke managed to turn it into a special gem with the remix. While still maintaining it's original guitar driven sound, a nice dance and drum beat fills in where the song lacked. Yay for remixes that are better than the orginal!

Shane Holt

When i come across an amazing unsigned band/artist i tend to make it my personal mission to tell everyone about them. With that, if anyone is in a band and wants me to promote them on my blog i would love it. Just e-mail me at gabriel.lemus@gmail.com.

So Damn Beautiful is a charming little tune by Shane Holt. I said in a previous entry that I wasn't too keen on male singers with guitars but Shane has something special; he has the ability to warm your heart with his lyrics and make you want to fall in love again & again. Plus, he's not so bad to look at. My favorite part of the song is the acoustic piece towards the end. A perfect song for bedtime or on a late drive home, Shane sings with such compassion you feel like he's singing to you. Let's just say he is.

Brazilian Girls

If only Starbucks allowed music to be played with such words as 'pussy' 'marijuana' 'don't stop til I'm cumming' among others. If they did, I'm sure Brazilian Girls would be all over the cafe's airwaves. With heavy, down-tempo bass and shiny synth lines, Brazilian Girls have created a whole new kind of mellow electronica. In my opinion, one of the best chill out bands. Their new album Talk To La Bomb doesn't surpass their self-titled debut but rather gives us more of what they're great at; manipulated beats, Sabina Scubbas sexy, breathy vocals, and the obligatory vulgar word or phrase. Only they get away with having a song titled Sexy Asshole and still maintain credibility and finesse.

Brazilian Girls - Last Call

Brazilian Girls' sophomore album
Talk To La Bomb will be released
Sept 12 in the US.

Landon Pigg

I'm not a big fan of male singer/songwriters (John Mayer, James Blunt, etc blahlbah) but Landon Pigg rubs me the right way. Lyrically, he's beyond his twenty-three years but still captivates the feeling of innocence and vulnerability. He's also somewhat of an artist/photographer and has a few things posted on his
website.

Can't let Go is a a helpless fool for love kind of song. He says 'without lifting a finger you're holding me back' with such ease and familiarity that you can relate to the feeling. Which brings me to why I adore this boy so much; his words are highly relatable. Loves the young, naive, arty, singer boys.

Lo-Fi-Fnk

couple things:
-New layout kind of. Still a bit of a work in progress. Bear with me for now.
-If anyone has supersexy photoshop skills I'd love to see youc create a title image for this blog. I have one up currently that i really enjoy but i also wanna see what you can make. let me know if you're able to contribute.

Now, back to the music.

Within the past couple months i have been bombarded with amazing dance, electronica type musics.
Lo-Fi-Fnk are definitely a highlight in my discoveries. Two cuties from Sweden creating electro pop that will make your heart melt. Their synth loops and infectious melodies are to die for. Wake Up is one of the many tracks that i can listen to over and over again. Completely perfect from vocals to basslines, it's just so uppity sounding and will make you want to move around. And with an album called BoyLife, you can't help but love them.

A Kiss Could Be Deadly.

I'm becoming terrible at posting daily with school and everything. I'll try and make some time to post some goodies for you more often than not.

So, I've been meaning to feature this band for quite some time. The problem is i love every song of theirs so I've been hesitant to choose just one. But all decisions must be made. AKCBD is a band from my home Orange County. I know them personally and their personalities are just as amazing as they are musically. Mixing popular rock with just the right amounts of sexy synth, I see great potential for A Kiss Could Be Deadly (plus, i have a soft spot for girl fronted bands)

The Exit is totally listenable and catchy. I find myself singing the chorus a lot and when i play it some one always asks who it is and they love it. Perfect song for driving with your friends, usually drunk. So good.

Paula DeAnda

Just a quick recommendation before i got to bed; I can't stop listening to this track by 16 year old Texan Paula DeAnda. When i first got her album i thought she was going to be just another young girl singer to come and go without anyone noticing, maybe have one good song and the rest is filler. Suprisingly, most of the songs on her album aren't bad at all. They're actually very catchy. This ballad stood out to me amongst many others. It's a rather short song but i'm hooked on it. I'm a sucker for cheeky r&b pop so you might hate this, love this, whatev. I'm loving this poppy music overload these days. Paula's my flavor of the week for sure.

album will be released Aug. 29th
