Everybody either loves Nelly Furtado's new album Loose or thinks it's totally pretentious and an earsore. I'm one of many who love love love. I hate when I hear people talking about her as a crossover artist. She always had hip hop elements in her music and remixed with Missy Elliot. She just went in the right direction.
When I heard that Chris Martin was going to be singing on one of Nelly's new tracks I was intrigued. I'm personally not much of a listener of Coldplay but I do think that he has one of the nicest voices in music right now. Unfortunately, due to record label politics the version with Chris was cut from the album and re-recorded with vocals only by Nelly. The label said his voice was too 'rock' (wtf?) for the album.
But with the internet and 'leaking' I was able to get the unreleased version of the song. Nelly Furtado explained that Chris Martin's voice was like a ghost on the track and I understand what she meant now; Other than the conversation at the beginning and end of the song, his voice is almost not even there. It reminds me of a wind, it comes and it goes. I don't think it makes the song any worse or any better really. It just adds a little beauty to the track with a male voice. Sexy manvoice and sexy girlvoice together. loves it.
